So. Its official! The Street Improvements project has finally been granted £200K funding by Stockport SMBC. It’s been a long time in the planning but is very exciting news for The Heatons! The objectives are to enhance the appeal of existing shops and cafés in the Shaw Rd/Heaton Moor Rd area. Proposed plans include: wider pavements on Shaw Road (to allow space for outdoor seating); improvements to paving; a unified design along Shaw Road and Heaton Moor Road; and the introduction of street trees (where underground utilities allow). Pavements will be improved and the appeal of the area will be enhanced, creating a more liveable and inviting street environment.

The scheme came about as a result of intense discussions at 4HTA meetings and a public consultation exercise held at a Heaton Moor Producers’ market. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, so sketch proposals were passed to SMBC, who have now developed the detailed designs for the street improvements based on their own adoptable standards and preferred, acceptable materials. This design, along with a consultation letter, is being distributed to residents and traders local to the proposed scheme, for their feedback. Information gleaned from this will be considered, and incorporated (where appropriate), into a final design. Once approved by the SMBC committee, a scheme is due to begin on site at the start of 2017, to be completed by the end of March !
